Tea Party : Bon Voyage

In the midst of semi-packing and distraction from the world, I decided to throw myself a Bon Voyage Tea Party before leaving the Bay Area to New York City. With much support from my family, I gathered a few remarkable ladies over for an Afternoon Tea.

I suppose DIRTY gets PRETTY. ( NV in NSHA Club )

SHAPE SHIFTR | Defining Fashion for the Future

The New York-based fashion design duo  SHAPE SHIFTR is a label dedicated to creating innovative clothing inspired by the constant change in silhouette. Meghan Lavery and J’aime Lizotte are a pair that work simultaneousness in achieving the balance of two triangles. Inspirations of both these women create dating fashion beyond our time of the present but searching the past of Ancient Egyptian culture to redefine the future fashions. In an industry that is subject to evolve, I believe SHAPE SHIFTR has a focused appeal to outlast the test of time.

“I make things I want to wear.  I’m into what I’m into. “ -SHAPE SHIFTR

Up Close & Dirty | Shape Shifter

DIRTY: What were the earliest signs of interest in fashion design for each of you?

J’aime: I couldn’t find clothes I was really into, so I started making things that I wanted to wear.  That’s really it, it’s that simple.  I’d get up in the morning and think of what I wanted to wear and then I would make it.

Meghan: Very early, have always been really into clothing and fashion. Started with dress up and art classes. I got best dressed in the yearbook! I just could never find the things I wanted to wear. That’s when it started. I made clothes for myself and then started making for friends and then re-working vintage for a store in Portland.

Intoxicated with Riots

Photographs by Gary Lotus in June 2010 Vogue Italia reminded me to create this bracelet with San Diego,California sea shells. The model’s hair inspire me as they are shell-shaped. The beauty shoot was very resort themed with an overcast vision of blue stripes and black & white suits.

The editorial reminds viewers of a vacation for women in the1920′s, 1960′s or 1980′s. In present day, we still find the same search for an escape of realities by enjoying a beach trip or piecing together luxurious relaxation from our lives.

Roar for Chanel Couture–2010

No other way would Karl Lagerfeld have it but to completely take over the fashion jungle than at Chanel Couture 2010 collection show on Tuesday, July 6,2010.  Lagerfeld hugest feature of production was the 40-foot tall golden lion clawing a giant pearl. The statement of saying “I am majesty” was better done with this as the centerpiece then ever being said aloud. However, the haute couture line was the most unforgettable. Mid-calf length hemlines took classic and redefined the shape of the silhouette, neither too short or too long, both for day and evening dresses. Giving an Indian-Boho appeal, the structure was crafted in the exotic deep colors of royal blue, gold, burgundy, pearl with of course the richest materials. How could we forget the boots? Amazing textiles are perfectly scrunched of each pair. Dangling from wrists were all the chains, pearls, and stones for accessories. Couture never felt so simple ROYAL.

It’s a “Man’s World”| Spring/Summer 2011 Menswear Dirt

Raf Simons S/S 2011

The menswear Spring/Summer 2011 collections took place in Milan, Friday, June 18th- Tuesday, June 22nd, and continued to Paris Thursday, June 24th-Sunday, June 27, 2010. In reflection to the shows reviewed, there could be controversy in men’s designs converging to more feminine styles. Shorts are shorter than I had remember, but they are also worn as suggested skirts seen in Raf Simon‘s S/S 2011 collection. In the 1920′s silhouettes for women changed to conform to a more masculine appeal. Coco Chanel created womens wear collections, in relation to the independence of the 19th amendment, the right for women to vote, by loosing the shape and dropping waist lines to the hips. Parallel to the Roaring 20′s, the 1940′s, while men were at war, women took domestic roles, also wearing pants and square shoulders, suggesting man-like activities. Could the gender dominance be changing slowly as we progress into the 21st century?

Not all of the men’s collections could be put under the same umbrella. I enjoyed quite a few of the classic and simply fresh looks by the listed designers. Even though a pair of daisy dukes would sneak their way in. Europeans, I love you dirty gents.

Dirty Blossom: Resort 2011

The 2011 Resort collections showcased by designers give variety of the 1960′s to 1970′s youth meets sophistication and discovery of the world in comfortable chic. McCartney focuses on applying masculinity appeal and ultra femininity appreciation. That seems to be a constant reoccurring theme in the fashion world. Artistic floral textiles, peachy and blue lace tops paired with shorts, maroon blazers with suspenders holding up relaxed trousers (imagine on Alexa Chung, dirty snickers), beautiful camel jackets, and the cutest lace and electric blue cocktail dresses are seen in her Resort 2011 collection.

Katy Perry dips her cheeks in Cosplay

Music Video Inspired by Candyland & Harajuku Costume Play possibly?

Katy Perry is an amazing artist with a lot of talent and personality. She mixes retro modern fashion with a fun quirky attitude. We all can’t help but love it. In her new video “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg, we find Katy in Candyland. This reminds me of the vivid colors and subculture of the Harajuku world in Tokyo. Where they use costume play or “cosplay” to express the fantasy world of cartoons, amine, and child like imagination. See below for similar images that American celebrities are exposing now. These styles are seen many times with famous performer and fashionista Lady Gaga, which the Harajukus actually adore!

Got Gaga?
