GREEN BOUTIQUE: CHINERE DAVIS
Ms. Chinere Davis met me on a late sunlit Thursday Northern California afternoon, at her independently owned boutique, Green., for a personal interview. She is wearing a loose button up shirt, jeans, sun shades covering her eyes and light tan oxfords. Chinere welcomes me into her beautifully decorated store and offers me a seat. I fall in love with her clean elegant environment arrangement as we begin an intriguing conversation.
Chinere has an effortlessly chic fashion sense. Her boutique is created for the client as she travels to find the perfect vintage pieces to fit her store and costumer. Ms. Davis believes that her clientele is a variation of women, who commonly love daring, individual, and timeless pieces. She lets the clothing speak for its self as I glance to my left at the beautifully hung merchandise, all telling a story fluently. Ms. Davis plans to expand to multiple locations including her hometown of Los Angeles and to create access to Green. around the world by setting up an online store. Davis gives the dirt; she confirms that she has not become a slave to fashion, but rather absorbs the nature in a healthy relationship. Her thoughts waking up that morning were “I claim to be nothing, I am everything, I love those things that make my eyes dance, heart flutter, and soul soar.” Chinere loves fashion as an art form, expression, her everything, not only clothing but the way to present oneself. Green. has allowed her to fall in love everyday all over again, she reassures the Dirty Chic that she is absolutely happy with her store and wants to share that universal excitement by providing beautiful vintage. Defining fashion with vintage is to have no date attached, an everlasting feeling of butterflies that Chinere gets at the touch or vision of a silk dress from any era. “Expense does not denote style” claims Davis, nor does she believe that it is classified by trends, instead it is looking outstanding and original. Iconic fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg is remarked as an influence on Ms. Chinere with her versatile label that is interchangeable amongst an everyday chic wrap dress converted to a glamorous ball gown. “Fashion is to live in, feel amazing for everyday.” Davis explains.
Chinere began her interest for vintage in the later years of high school continuing in college while discovering and establishing herself as a woman by earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Howard University in Washington D.C. The search for vintage was a treasure hunt sparking innovation in each beautiful jewel at the foundation of her vintage collection. Chinere did not limit her inspirations to just clothing, but found an appreciation for vintage interior furnishings. She allows herself to release creativity in measures of past beauty, by still remaining active in both passions. In college Chinere interned for a privately owned development company, Rico Art in Washington D.C., which became her first job out of college. Ms. Davis finds adrenaline in the developing process by creating and styling in detail of exquisiteness. Chinere is still advancing in the many interests of her life, keeping in the interior décor scene; she crafts gorgeous pillows, and is involved in the modeling of homes for development excitement. The essence of life is what arouses Ms. Chinere’s happiness; she enjoys music, art, and traveling. The experience and inspiration instituted to Green. is from around the world, around the times, and easily apart of Chinere.
SUPADUPA VINTAGE: TATIANA BOLANOS
Tatiana Bolanos shows her talent through the Supadupa Vintage collections and her personality is apparent as soon as I answer her phone call on Wednesday night. Her voice is inviting, and I am excited word for word throughout our conversation.
Tatiana Bolanos created Supadupa Vintage at the age of 15, adopting the name from a school mate who echoed ‘Supadupa’ expressing emphasis on everything. Although Bolanos took a short break of her senior year from SDVTG, she never let her dreams or ambitions for her store slip away. Soon after graduating high school, TB moved to Arizona where she worked at a thrift store ‘SAVERS’ and began buying there. In Arizona attending school her desires to pursue Fashion Merchandising as well as work towards earning a Bachelors degree in Business Marketing became apparent in educating herself to achieve. College set her up in many ways to prepare for the fashion industry, yet she believes nothing does it better than interning.
Tatiana has worked as a production assistant for CC Skye, Manoush, stylists Diana Chan and Jessica Paster. As an intern she has found you gain experience to build skills that guide you through the rest of your career. The increased knowledge continues on into running SDVTG; the ability to buy and how to manage finances do apply. As an aspiring television stylist, Tatiana styles for her 2010 Summer Collection photo shoot, which she does for all collections. The landscape, clothing, accessories, shoes, and all things that make a photo come alive are put into place by Boss Bolanos with her passion for styling.
Networking in the city of L.A. can be a huge buzz for new designers; she attends parties such as “Freak City”, where she even got the chance to meet Jeremy Scott. Designers that inspire her include Marc Jacobs and Alexander Mc Queen. TB describes Jacob’s style to be new coming, and Mc Queen’s runways “ferocious”. Continuingly vending at Flea Markets, such as the Rose Bowl in Pasadena that she was preparing for the night we spoke. As a woman who sees a ton of vintage pieces, she explains that the most will forever be the dress. From the puffy sleeve dresses of the 80′s that anyone will go crazy for to the 50′s vintage dress worn with the perfect accessories and flats.
As of right now she is effectively focusing on Supadupa Vintage, by gaining exposure as well as getting more stores carrying her collection of designs. TB plans to expand to states all over the U.S. she already has reached New York, and knows places like Arizona would love her designs. The possibilities are endless where Tatiana Bolanos will take us, let’s just sit back and watch it. Oh, and of course BUY it. Dirty Loves TB & SDVTG.
